Juan Javier Aguiar Román is a professor at the Faculty of Jurisprudence at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE) in Quito. He teaches courses including, Fundamentals of Law, History and Sociology of Law, Roman Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. His research focuses on legal history, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of homosexuality in Ecuador. In his work, he examines the evolution of legal perspectives on homosexuality from pre-Hispanic times through the Inca Empire, colonial periods, and into the modern era. Aguiar Román has contributed to projects and publications that delve into the intersection of law and social issues, reflecting his commitment to understanding and teaching the complexities of legal systems and their societal impacts. He is a member of the Global Citizenship Curriculum Project Faculty Working Group.
